As Canada’s Festival City, Edmonton prides itself on its strong community engagement. Year long, this city celebrates everything that makes it wonderful. This month, residents are invited to honor art and the amazing artists with the Downtown Spark Festival.
Opening May 25th, the Downtown Spark Festival will showcase whimsical art installations from around the world as Downtown Edmonton is transformed into an outdoor art exhibit. On May 25th view the live recording of CKUA’s The Upload with host Grant Stovel. Starting on May 25th tickets are available for the guided scooter tours beginning daily at 6:30pm. Throughout the week enjoy live music, pop-up shows, and concerts.
At the Downtown Spark Festival, you’ll see art by three major artists. Atelier Sisu, an award-winning Sydney-based art practice, will be showcasing an amazing artistic piece entitled Evanescent at Sir Winston Churchill Square. Lead by Peruvian sculptor and industrial designer Renzo B. Larriviere and Zara Pasfield, a spatial architect and artist. These two specialize in creating public art-chitecture, a visually impressive combination of art and architecture.
Designs in Air, a UK-based design firm, have created several larger than life inflatable sculptures with innovative lighting, sensor-based interactive technology, and kinetics. View Bezerker atop Campio Brewing Co., Goofs at CKUA on Jasper Avenue, Slapper at the Enbridge Centre, and Nosey Bonk at the ATB Place.
Vignettes will showcase their Urban Jungle at Alex Decoteau Park. This design team creates full scale multidisciplinary art. These innovated artists use under-utilized spaces within the city to push design, culture, and art forward. Vignettes have painted large scale murals across Edmonton including one at Revolution Square.
Dog owners will love the Bark & Brew event held May 27th and 28th from 1pm to 6pm. Bring your pooch to Alex Decoteau Park for two days of free tail wagging fun. Dogs enjoy free barkuterie boards and relaxing on the patio at Campio Brewing Co. beer garden. Everyone can enjoy the SuperDogs Express show, free photos by Edmonton Pet Photography, Dog Vendor Market, and live music and DJs. Food and drinks available from Sheeba Indian Street Food and Sosyal Scoops.
